In the 1960's, they built a simple building for the Nijmegen University, and it was intended to last about 10 years or so. In the mean time, many bets have been placed which buildings in the neighbourhood would be demolished first. But finally they are getting serious about it: the demolition of the Universal Laboratory.

Oh, and by the way: I have a job! After lots of internal struggles at the university, and it is still not for the time as promised to me (and other people), but it's a start...

EDIT: There is a webcam of the demolition, here, and an aerial view of the situation some time ago, before the demolition process started, here.

They have started already... behind this building there was an open space with grass, trees and a pond, which has been most horribly destroyed (think of what Isengard looked like after Saruman turned evil) and replaced with "modern" buildings. People generally say this old one was ugly but the new one isn't much better, just more contemporary. In fact the old one

See http://www.ru.nl/aspx/get.aspx?xdl=/views/run/xdl/page&PosIdt=3463&ItmIdt=34428&SitIdt=3&VarIdt=1
for an aerial view from the other side from some time ago (the part that was demolished recenly is at the top right along the street, the furthest part was already gone) And I discover there is a webcam too... at http://fnwicam.science.ru.nl/view/index.shtml ...

I should have finished that sentence... in fact the old buildings definitely have beauty in their ugliness. I can't say that of the new one.

I'm much more optimistic, thanks to something finally working out (well partially at least). The job is programming for this project (http://www.phasar.cs.ru.nl/). There are fortunately several fundamental building blocks already available, it's not like everything has to be built from scratch. Which is quite a relief to me since this area of technology is kind of new to me...
