New year's party
Jan. 3rd, 2004 05:40 pmThere was a new year's party in Amsterdam that I was invited to (or was going to be invited to, if the party would materialise, which seemed far from certain), but I was not quite sure I wanted to go. I was not really in a party mood. Fortunately, people on IRC managed to convince me in the last possible minute that it really would be better to go. To be honest, I wanted them to convince me :-) It gave me a feeling that I would be missed if I didn't go, which is always a good ego-booster. And I could use one, obviously.
And despite various troubles with the public transport, including a train that was on fire, I arrived. And I had a marvellous time! I met interesting new people, and there was a lot of chemistry going on. In more than one sense, I might say. But nevertheless it was again a great ego-booster (at least for the short term) that there were two people who approached me before I even had started to approach them (with ulterior motives ;-) Not a solution for the longer-term issues, but certainly it gave me a good feeling for the party (and maybe even for some more, but that remains to be seen).
It was also a nice surprise that I met somebody there who I knew already but I had not associated her with this particular crowd.
So, yes, I'm glad I went. It was good for me. Very tiring, but still good.
