We have mice again!
Oct. 19th, 2005 02:33 amOne reason I don't use my Amiga very much anymore, is that the mouse is broken. Or not really the mouse, but something between the connector on the computer and the chip that interprets the signals. Sometimes it magically decides to work for a while. And it is only the movement that fails, the buttons keep working.
While merrily Kermitting files over, I suddenly realised that, with plenty of serial ports, I could connect a pc serial mouse! I'd just have to write a little driver to inject InputEvents into the input.device's event stream. Two seconds later, I realised that somebody probably already had done just that. So one quick search for serial mouse on AmiNET proved me right. A handful of little programs to try.
So now I have a working mouse again. Even two - for while installing the mouse driver program the normal mouse suddenly worked for a while, just as if it felt the competition.
I seem to be a bit manic about all this the last few days. I even feel like releasing an update to my MessyDOS file system - I have added support for long file names in it, but hardly anyone has it to enjoy that feature.
The world deserves an update, after.. ehm... almost 9 years now.
