As a purely theoretical exercise (ahem), how does one get from Stansted Airport (friday morning) to some place near Tottenham Hale (and back on sunday afternoon/evening), as fast as possible, without using the horribly expensive Stansted Express.
To get you started: http://www.travelinesoutheast.org.uk/ , http://www.arrivabus.co.uk/ .

http://tfl.gov.uk suggests either rail (32 minutes) or the A51 bus from the coach station, then a couple of tube connections. OR three buses and then a tube journey. Anything involving a bus is somewhere between 90 minutes and 1hr 50m travel though.

The best I have come up with so far is the Arriva 510 bus to Harlow Mill (about 50 minutes) then a train (about 15 minutes). But none of the automatic travel planner sites gave me such a result, so I wonder if it can be done better than that. For instance, that bus runs only once/hour on sundays, and I didn't look at the delay between train and bus.

TFL is great for within London, but drops of very quickly to the most major/long distance coach routes outside. I had to specifically search for from: "Stansted (Airport)" to get anything, just putting 'Stansted' in the place of interest came up with a cafe.

'One' railway run a rather sparsely-populated service from Stansted Airport to Stratford. If you can get from the airport to Stansted Mountfitchet station, you'll find a lot more trains, though.
