rhialto | Interesting weekend

I received interesting news a few days ago: a friend from my secondary school (which by now is a couple of decades ago) was looking for me. We lost touch after school, met again at a school reunion and then lost touch again. I always had felt it was my fault but today I learned that she had felt it was her fault :-)
So she went looking for my parents' house as a starting point - just when I was in Britain for BiCon. The funny thing there was that she has married a British guy and was just coming back from there. They had been living on a narrow boat there and traveling the canals, and now they had gone almost an order of magnitude bigger and got a french canal boat, which was moored fairly nearby (about 20 km I think).
Since I was visiting my parents anyway I asked them to wake me up early in the morning (and I normally hate that kind of thing) so I could bicycle there to visit. Which was great fun. Her appearance had changed a bit, but not apparenltly mine, except that my hair was longer. It was also fun to chat with her husband. They knew Manchester and the little little harbour next to the Museum of Science & Industry in Manchester, of course, and I had been there too recently. We swam in the river Maas by jumping overboard, and we had rum-cokes and by the time I had to go home I wasn't completely sober anymore. *smile*
