I have been wondering the past days how other people on lj do it: follow multiple threads of discussion that sprout from the various entries in people's journals. If you leave your computer on all the time, you can keep the pages open, but then you get a ridiculous number of open tabs in your browser (if you even have one that supports that), and I noticed that lj starts to split big threads into multiple pages so that will fail anyway. And even if all this is not failing, you still have to reload lots of pages, and read all the way through them, to check if there are any new comments you haven't seen.
Newsreaders are sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much better at this kind of thing. Somebody surely must have found a solution for this?

You can set LJ to email you notification whenever someone comments on a comment or post you've written. :) It's under Edit Personal Information - tick the box marked "Get message board replies". :)

See other comments about it not working right now... and I'd like to have the solution work for other threads too, ones that that I'm not contributing to (or for parts of other threads that I'm not contributing to).
I have been thinking about NNTP interfaces, but the article numbering in friends-pages would be impossible; maybe there should be just a newsgroup per journal.

yes, they're the ones that i'm sure take on further interesting directions and i just don't get back to follow them...
