Rita moordenaar!
Nov. 12th, 2005 06:25 pmIt seems democracy and freedom of speech has been terminated here in the Netherlands.
Last week, the police and the riot squad aggressively removed banners that were hanging from squatted buildings, because they contained slogans that are critical about the government policies and actions surrounding the scandalous fire "incident" at the prison at Schiphol airport, where refugees who are about to be deported are locked up. As you may recall (if it reached the news) there were no safety measures and/or they were sabotaged - resulting in eleven refugees killed.
Thursday the police here in Nijmegen confiscated posters that criticized the minister's (Rita Verdonk) policies.
Yesterday (friday), somebody was arrested while showing one of those poster to a tv reporter of the provincial tv news. The poster showed a picture of the deportation prison, and the text "Travel agency Rita. Arrest, deportation, cremation. Effective until the bitter end.". The public prosecutor apparently cannot see the difference between the deportation prison and a concentration camp, since he describes the picture as such. That is probably because the difference is really, really small.
Update: I even forgot to mention the "incident" where someone was hanging a banner from a window, using a battery-powered drill, passing police thought they saw (or wanted to see, and even hear) a gun, and sent in an anti-terrorism squad and arrested everybody living in the house. Result: more posters.
Who needs enemies if you live in a state like this?
