I had made an appointment with the large garbage collection service, to collect my old fridge. It turns out these things do not take into account people's realistic situations at all. One is supposed to put the garbage in your garden for collection. Also, you're supposed to be at home when they come round. And they can't tell you at which time this will be.
These things are totally unworkable for single working people living in apartment buildings.
Of course, living by myself, it is completely impossible to just carry a large inconvenient thing such as a fridge to the front door. For flats, they say, you can put the garbage in the downstairs storage. You'd have to get it there first of course. And getting it from there to the front door is just as difficult as getting it from my apartment to the front door; in both cases you need the lift, and my storage is in fact further from the lift than my front door. Therefore I had asked, when making the appointment, if they would have a dolly or cart, and yes, they would have a dolly.
So, when they got here, they had no dolly. And totally unhelpful. And they left without even considering any way they could be helpful.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

I had the same when I moved from Enschede to Utrecht in a single day. The movers came at 8:00 AM (to pack all my boxes I had packed the days before) and helped me out to put all the garbage crap (old broken washing machine, broken printer and old PC hardware that the previous resident had left behind).

The washing machine was supposed to be picked up by the 'special garbage collection service'. However, when I came back 10 minutes later (and I'm sure I had heard no car or lorry) it was _ALL_ gone, not even a single print circuit board. I _think_ some neighborhood kids took it. When the collection service turned up, they must've been mightily pissed they came for nothing (served them fine! for not being able to tell me when they'd show up!)

Oh no! it's a nightmare scenario... I have the same problem with my old washing machine - but I just bought a new dishwasher and lied to the company (they only remove old machines when they are exactly the same type, I just hope they don't notice my washing machine is not a dishwasher when they pick it up when delivering the new thing).
