After about a year of catlessness, we do have a cat again! Meet Don, the big red (formerly) male cat from the animal shelter!

Don. he is a big red male cat.
("open image in new tab" shows the original size, which is bigger)

Don is very different from our previous cats. The first thing they did, was find the most horrible hiding place in the apartment (behind the washing machine, in the dirt, squashed on top of each other). To get to see them, we had to put up spy cams and leave the apartment...

Not so Don! He carefully jumped out of the carrier and started to explore the room systematically and carefully. Yes, belly close to the ground at first, but he jumped on top of everything. Twice.

Don the cat, sitting on a book shelf next to a lamp, surveying his new domain.

Already on day one there were loud purrs and tails up. On day two, he demanded belly rubs.

Don is very sweet and polite. I haven't felt his nails yet.

Of course, Don has some weirdnesses. Apparently he is partly a British shorthair, hence his nose that looks kicked in like a boxer. And he likes to eat most of his food at night. So when we feed him at midnight, he wakes us at 5 or 6, for more food. And thanks to the stupid summer time, which still exists, and ended just last weekend, now he will do it an hour earlier. We will have to train him to eat later... or just give him more midnight food.

He was brought to the shelter as a foundling. So we know nothing about his history. He was estimated to be 8 years old. He has a small heart murmur, but nothing that needs treatment yet. He's still running around chasing balls, though. Because he's partly British Shorthair, which are supposed to be extra intelligent cats, we're still looking for some intelligent cat puzzles, to hide food inside. If we can find some type of dry food that he likes, because the one we tried, he didn't care for.

Today, he sat in a box for the first time, so he could be with us during the day in our home-office room.

Congratulations on your new household addition! It's great that he settled in so quickly -- when I've adopted adult cats it's taken way longer to get them that comfortable.
