I came across another one of those tests (of course) and for the fun of it, I did it. Apparently I am The Poolboy.

What I didn't realise is that there is a whole datingsite behind this, and it turns out there are a lot of bi people on it. Mostly in the USA, though. My best match is with somebody in Berkeley (90%, which seems quite impressive). Perhaps because I like *BSD so much, although that was not one of the questions they asked. There are a lot of questions, and they are used to calculate the match score.

Nobody from the Netherlands appears to be compatible with me though. I have to go to Vienna at the least, for a 83% match, or London for 82%. So there should be more Dutch people on the site!

How accurate are the results of that test? I would have liked it better if it had been a bit less... yes, you guessed it... binary!

Anyhow, all my best matches are far, far away. If I believed in fate, I'd say it's my fate for all the supposedly compatible people to live halfway around the world.

As far as the accuracy concerns, I would perhaps not completely agree with the category "Random Gentle Sex Dreamer". The way I think about myself would be more a "Deliberate Gentle Love Dreamer": I often value (or perhaps used to value) ratio over emotions, and I would say that Love is more my long-term interest, even though for the short term the Sex would be accurate. That's a difference the test doesn't make, I think. Therefore I might have answered the questions about that subcategory somewhat inconsistently. The reason for the difference between short and long term is the "once bitten, twice shy" phenomenon: my previous relationship (of two and a half years) ended really unexpectedly and not really pleasantly. For now I don't feel like giving my whole heart and soul over to somebody again, for fear of that happening again. I'm sure that will change, though, but it takes time.

erasmus just took the test this morning, and his results didn't quite suit him. Maybe he is just in denial of his true nature. I took the test again last night, and still came up with The Peach. Other than the bad haircut, and the red dress that I would probably never wear, it seemed to be mostly accurate. However, I have been going through some personal changes in the past year, and probably am evolving more into Deliberate rather than Random. It would be great if the test were a bit deeper, to include short term sex and long term love, among other options.

I think that is wise, especially if the break-up was very recent. Once, after a very painful break-up, I gave myself a year to think things over. For me, that was a good length of time. It definitely takes time.
