Uninvited

Today a friend (P.) has her birthday party. For these things, invitations are usually pretty informal. That I had not been explicly invited yet didn't bother me very much. Some other friends were, and we typically are invited collectively. Last year, I was also at P.'s birthday party. Therefore I joined the collective present without hesitation.

Imagine my surprise when I heard today that I was apparently explicitly not invited. The "purchasing committee" for the present had spoken with P. to get some ideas for potential presents. In the course of this they mentioned me, no, I was not invited, and no, there was no supplement to that like "oh yes, I forgot to ask him" or "sure he can come if he wants".

Weird. When I heard this, I thought it was very weird. In fact, I quickly revised my opinion; I even thought this can be called unfriendly. I have absolutely no idea why this is. I had offered an old Macintosh clone to P. recently that she could use for her studies, if it was powerful enough for that. I don't think it will be, but I retract the offer anyway.
